Diego Mendoza Imbachí
Vive y trabaja entre Timbío (Cauca), Cali y Palmira (Valle del Cauca). Maestro en Artes Plásticas de la Universidad del Cauca, su práctica se centra en el dibujo y la escultura como medios para explorar el territorio del Cauca, una región que lo ha marcado profundamente desde su infancia en la vereda La Venta de Cajibío. Allí, el contacto cotidiano con la agricultura y la jardinería definió su sensibilidad hacia la relación entre naturaleza, paisaje y sociedad, perspectiva que continúa permeando su obra actual.
Su trabajo propone una mirada analítica y reflexiva sobre el espacio rural y su lugar en el mundo contemporáneo, tensionando la tradición agrícola con las transformaciones culturales y económicas que atraviesan los territorios.
Ha recibido reconocimientos como el Premio PAPEL del Museo La Tertulia (2011), el Premio de la II Bienal Nacional e Internacional de Arte de Bucaramanga (2013), la beca de residencia en URRA, Buenos Aires (2015), y el Gabinete #18 de FLORA ars+natura (2016). Fue además artista seleccionado en el Paseo de las Américas, Banco Interamericano de Desarrollo (BID), Washington (2018), y ha participado en múltiples exposiciones y proyectos que consolidan su trayectoria como una de las voces más sólidas del arte contemporáneo en Colombia vinculadas al territorio y lo rural.
He lives and works between Timbío (Cauca), Cali, and Palmira (Valle del Cauca). With a Master’s degree in Fine Arts from the University of Cauca, his practice focuses on drawing and sculpture as means to explore the territory of Cauca, a region that has deeply marked him since his childhood in the village of La Venta de Cajibío. There, daily contact with agriculture and gardening defined his sensitivity to the relationship between nature, landscape, and society, a perspective that continues to permeate his current work.
His work offers an analytical and reflective view of rural space and its place in the contemporary world, creating tension between agricultural tradition and the cultural and economic transformations that are taking place in these territories.
He has received awards such as the PAPEL Prize from the La Tertulia Museum (2011), the Prize from the II National and International Art Biennial of Bucaramanga (2013), a residency scholarship at URRA, Buenos Aires (2015), and Gabinete #18 from FLORA ars+natura (2016). He was also selected as an artist for the Paseo de las Américas, Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), Washington (2018), and has participated in multiple exhibitions and projects that consolidate his career as one of the strongest voices in contemporary art in Colombia linked to the territory and the rural world.
